After Thanksgiving, everyone is tired of turkey and stuffing. Try a "roll your own sushi" party for all your family and friends. This will be your "favorite party of the year".

When my kids were off at the University of Michigan, Thanksgiving weekend was the first time they could join up with their high school friends. That started the tradition.

All the kids look forward to Sushi Saturday every Thanksgiving. It has grown from big to bigger. I even started inviting some of my friends, and it suddenly became the "biggest"!

It's clearly the most fun evening of each year...

Guests become more inventive with their "rolling"...

I become more creative with my ingredients!

It’s easy to plan and prepare.
It’s interactive and fun!
Here we roll…I mean...

Diva Ideas for Turkey Day!

Thanksgiving dinner is the favorite holiday in our blended family household.

Create your special holiday:

  • Draw names to see what dishes are prepared by each kid.  You do the shopping and the rest is up to each individual.  When the kids are older, they choose the recipe, a traditional or new dish to contribute.  You still do the grocery shopping…and each of them prepares their dish.

Remember, each guest is responsible for one dish...even a spouse or significant other. Can't wait till everyone does their own grocery shopping...hehe!
  • Prepare all the dishes with a certain regional or ethnic twist in mind...possibly where you vacationed...
  • Hollow out small pumpkins as vases...

  • Start your family gathering with Psalm 100, a beautiful verse...

  • Begin a new tradition...invite another family to share in a Thanksgiving dessert buffet in the evening...

  • Remember those who are not with us and have been an important part of our lives. One of Grandpa Bud's recipes, Cheesy Cauliflower ala Bud or Grandpa Bud's Oyster Stuffing, is always served...

  • Open your feast by serving individual pumpkin pies or pumpkin brulee in ramekins...
